Diamond is the reason to pick this one. Ceramic and carbide abrasives struggle with modern powder steels — S30V, MagnaCut, CRU-WEAR and the like are hard enough to blunt the sharpener rather than the other way round. Diamond cuts them all, because nothing in a knife blade is harder than diamond.
If a customer has spent real money on a premium-steel knife, this is the sharpener that will actually maintain it. Smith's have been making sharpening equipment in Arkansas since 1886.
