JT Outfitters didn't start as a business plan — it started as a passion. A lifelong love of knives, hunting, and shooting sports led to a collection built up over many years: folders picked up at shows, gifts from fellow enthusiasts, and pieces sought out simply because they were beautifully made. Somewhere along the way, that personal collection became a fast-growing majority of a house full of gear.
From Collection to Calling
Decades of hands-on knowledge shouldn't sit in a drawer. Driven by a passion for quality outdoor gear, what started as a personal collection has grown into a family-built business. Welcome to JT Outfitters, trading under Jaco Traders—where expertise meets the outdoors.
A Family Business, Built on Real Knowledge
We're not a faceless import warehouse. We're a small, hands-on family team who genuinely use and appreciate the products we sell — from the field to the workbench. That means when you ask us a question about a lock mechanism, a steel, or which gear suits your next trip into the bush, you're getting an answer from people who actually use these products themselves, not a script.
What We Carry
We're an official authorised dealer for WE Knife Co., CIVIVI and SENCUT — premium folders and fixed blades in the steels and designs that collectors and everyday carriers actually want. Alongside them we stock Honey Badger, whose Cross-Bolt folders are honest working knives that mostly land under R1,000, plus the Claw hawkbill and the D2 Wharncleaver.
We also import Kizer directly — design-led folders and fixed blades, from the value-focused KizerV line in Nitro-V and AEB-L up to titanium-framed knives in Elmax, M390, CPM S45VN and MagnaCut. Popular models like the Drop Bear, Begleiter, Militaw and Wharning each come in several steel and handle combinations, and every colourway has its own listing so you can see exactly what you are buying.
We also import the names most people already know. Spyderco — the company that gave the modern folder its opening hole, its pocket clip and its serrated edge — from the affordable Tenacious up to the Salt Series, in CPM MagnaCut and LC200N. Cold Steel, whose Tri-Ad lock is still the benchmark for lock strength. CRKT, who turn custom designs from makers like Kit Carson and Ken Onion into knives ordinary people can afford. And Kershaw, who put assisted opening into everyday hands.
At the premium and tactical end we import Zero Tolerance, Kai USA's Oregon-built flagship line, alongside overbuilt American folders and fixed blades from Spartan Blades and Sniper Bladeworks, duty knives from SIG Sauer, and the affordable Bear Edge Brisk for the bakkie and the toolbox.
For traditional patterns we carry Browning and Winchester — bowies, stag lockbacks and wood-handled hunting folders — and Opinel, whose French carbon steel Traditional folders have been made the same way in the Savoie region of France since 1890. In the kitchen, Böker chef's knives, including the Heritage range forged in Solingen, Germany.
We're also an authorised dealer for KUGA, a proudly South African brand building vacuum-insulated drinkware and rotomoulded cooler boxes for local conditions. Flasks that still hold ice after a day in the sun, and coolers built for the back of a bakkie rather than a showroom floor. Alongside KUGA we carry YETI drinkware and gear cases, Stanley 1913's vacuum-insulated tumblers and bottles, and Santeco bottles, flasks and tumblers, including a coffee flask with a built-in dripper.
For the road and the campsite we carry Coleman hard coolers — the Pro Series and the wheeled Convoy range — and the Frozen compressor fridge/freezer, which runs off 12V, 24V or household power so you can stop buying bags of ice. Maxpedition hard-use packs round out the kit.
On the lighting wall we carry Ledlenser, engineered in Solingen, Germany and covered by a seven-year warranty once you register the light, Nebo, whose rechargeable torches, spotlights, work lights and headlamps punch well above their price, Olight, whose magnetic-charging EDC and tactical torches set the standard for the category, Zweibrüder, the Solingen name that started Ledlenser, now building its own range of rechargeable torches, and Supaled headlamps. CAT covers multi-tools and worklights, alongside Leatherman, the original multi-tool, still built in the USA since 1983. Allocacoc's modular PowerStrip and USBcube USB-A and USB-C chargers round out the electronics side.
Because a good knife is only good while it's sharp, we stock DMT diamond abrasives, Lansky field sharpeners and Smith's electric sharpeners — and we'll tell you honestly which one suits the steel you own. And for the range and the hunt, Walker's hearing protection, in passive, electronic and Bluetooth versions, and UltraEdge game processing kits for field dressing and butchering.
For the home, and as an easy gift, we carry Yankee Candle — Signature candles, reed diffusers and Car Jars — and WoodWick candles with their crackling wooden wick.
At the desk, LAMY pens from Heidelberg, Germany — the safari, AL-star, studio, Lx and the LAMY 2000, supplied to order — alongside CIVIVI's machined EDC pens.
For the braai area, we supply Gozney pizza ovens, Traeger pellet grills and Weber kettles, gas braais and pellet grills to order, along with MEATER wireless smart meat thermometers.
Every product we sell is 100% genuine, backed by warranty, and imported or sourced properly into South Africa with duties paid.
Why It Matters to You
Because we started as collectors and users, not just retailers, we choose our range with a collector's eye and a user's practicality. If something doesn't earn its place in the veld or on the belt, we don't stock it.
Our Showroom Is Open
Our showroom at 90 Monument Road, Nimrod Park, Kempton Park is open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00, and closed on weekends and public holidays. Everything we hold in stock is out on the wall under proper lighting, so you can open a knife, feel the detent, check the grind — and we'll switch a torch on and throw a beam down the passage so you can judge the output for yourself.
