The lightweight Sage 5, in the deep petrol blue that marks Spyderco's CPM SPY27 family.
SPY27 is a steel Crucible Industries developed exclusively for Spyderco. Think of it as VG-10 taken further — the proven composition, enriched with cobalt and other alloys, then made by the particle metallurgy process for a far more uniform grain structure. The result is a steel with a distinctive “sticky sharp” edge that balances toughness and corrosion resistance without becoming a chore to sharpen.
Injection-moulded FRN scales in a fine honeycomb texture keep the weight down to 3 oz while nested skeletonised steel liners keep it rigid. Spyderco's Compression Lock handles the closing, one-handed, fingers clear of the blade.
Made in Taichung, Taiwan — Spyderco's premium production facility.
